Mini Trekking – 90 min ice trek

Walking on a glacier, with crampons, is a unique experience that has to be done once in a lifetime! What better place than the magnificent Perito Moreno Glacier?! This fantastic adventure allows you to see and feel the glacier from a completely different perspective; admire the deep crevasses, their colours, sounds and glacial streams. You’ll also have time to contemplate the rest of the Perito Moreno from the walkways, where its sheer immensity can be admired. Wow!

Day 1

We pick you up from your hotel in the morning and take you to the Bajo de Las Sombras port, from where we continue our journey by boat for around 20 minutes.

We cross the part of the lake known as Brazo Rico and, once on the other side, receive an introductory talk on the day’s activities.

The trek starts with a walk towards the Perito Moreno Glacier along a picturesque beach.

Upon reaching the ice we are split up into small groups and fit crampons to our trekking boots, under the supervision of experienced mountain guides.

Instructions are given on how to walk on a glacier and the group sets off on the ice-hiking part of the trek. We spend approximately one and a half hours on the glacier, which is plenty of time to take photographs and marvel at the fascinating and infinite shapes of the centuries-old ice.

The mountain guide gives us interesting snippets of information about the glacier, the southern region of Patagonia and local flora and fauna, etc., and you will get the chance to ask as many questions as you like.

The colours, shapes and sounds are all part of this wonderful experience on one of the most emblematic glaciers in Argentine Patagonia.

At the end of the ice trek we visit a cosy refuge, which is an excellent place to enjoy your packed lunch (not included).

The excursion includes a visit to the walkways. You will be able to enjoy, for about an hour, the spectacular views of the glacier (you will be informed on the day if it is before or after the ice trekking).

After a full day of adventure, we return to El Calafate.
