A demanding trek for those ready to experience Patagonia from above. Elevation, history and 360° views over Lago Argentino, the Andes and, on clear days, the Torres del Paine.
Some mountains are admired from afar… others are meant to be conquered.
The Cerro Frías Trek Challenge is designed for those who want to go further and experience Patagonia from above. With nearly 900 metres of elevation gain and a route of approximately 13 km, this trek invites you to push your limits while immersing yourself in some of southern Argentina’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Your adventure begins early, with a transfer from your hotel to the historic estancia house, the starting point of the ascent. As you gain altitude, the scenery transforms, revealing sweeping views over the Cordón de los Cristales, the Centinela River valley and, on clear days, the iconic Torres del Paine on the horizon.
Along the way, you will stop at the historic Refugio Leñador, where estancia workers once gathered firewood in the early 20th century, adding a touch of local history to the journey.
The reward awaits at the summit, at around 1,100 metres above sea level: a spectacular 360° panorama over Lago Argentino, the Andes mountain range and, in the distance, the legendary Fitz Roy. The perfect setting to enjoy lunch surrounded by nature.
The descent follows a different trail, offering new perspectives and landscapes before returning to the estancia, where a traditional afternoon tea awaits prior to the transfer back to your hotel.
A demanding trek, endless scenery and the satisfaction of reaching the top. Patagonia at its purest.
