The joy of losing our sight on the horizon, horseback riding by the side of Lake Viedma. A great choice to make the best of the drive in-between El Calafate and El Chaltén, or to join as a day trip.
This estancia is located in the middle of the Patagonian steppe, on the famous Route 40, en route between El Chaltén y El Calafate. A perfect option for making the most of the journey between the two towns. We begin our adventure at the estancia’s stables on our tame horses to start an unforgettable ride across the estancia’s land and alongside Lake Viedma. From the lakeside, in the distance and on a clear day, we can also see the famous Mts of Fitz Roy and Torre. The flora and fauna on the dry steppe is also surprising: great fruit bushes of calafate, a famous fruit of the region. Fauna, we may spot guanacos, rheas, foxes and armadillos.
With a bit of luck, we’ll see puma footprints, that inhabit the area. After arriving at the lake and riding along the beach, we make our way to the point where to meet the rafts that will take us down La Leona river.
Once back at the main building in the Estancia, we will enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner (depending on whether our visit takes place in the morning or in the afternoon).
Finally, we continue our journey on the paved road towards El Calafate or El Chaltén. This excursion could start with a pick up in one of these towns and a drop off on the other, or even start & finish at the same town. Also, you can choose to join the 1,5 hours horseback ride + the floating down La Leona river on a raft, as explained on this itinerary, or a longer horseback ride instead (3 hours), with no floating down the river.
– Lunch or dinner included.
