The road between El Chaltén and Lago del Desierto must be one of the prettiest routes in Southern Patagonia. So why not enjoy it from the saddle? Make the most of the prevailing winds from behind, enjoy the waterfalls and lagoons en route!
After having been picked up from your accommodation in El Chaltén, we leave for Lago del Desierto, on an unpaved road of 37km. After about 90 minutes we arrive at Lago del Desierto. Here you have the option of starting the cycle back to El Chaltén straight away or, first of all enjoying Lago del Desierto. You could walk up to the Huemul Glacier and Lagoon or do a boat ride across Lago del Desierto. The bike ride back to El Chaltén has some uphill, but generally it’s flat or down hill. The road is located in the valley basin of the River de las Vueltas and in several spots the road runs alongside the river, from where you can enjoy the lovely colours of it. You will also go past some lovely waterfalls and a historical spot – good excuses for a break! After a few hours of riding you arrive back into El Chaltén where you can enjoy a good homemade beer to celebrate your adventure!
