Description

Climb one of the most emblematic mountains in our area! The Solo peak is a landmark of the landscape of the Mount Torre group of peaks, which is visible from all angles and is somewhat separate from the rest of the massif (its name in Spanish means "alone") From its summit marvellous views can be enjoyed of the Southern Patagonian Ice Fields and the entire northern sector of the Los Glaciares National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cerro Solo Approach

The activity begins in the morning with an approach trek as far as the Torre Lagoon. When we reach the source of the River Fitz Roy, we have to cross over to the other side using a zip line, with the use of harnesses, pulleys and carabiners. After this, we walk over the lateral moraine on the shores of the Torre Lagoon before starting our climb up a rocky incline to the source of the Solo Stream, where we find a suitable spot to pitch our tents. We may need to use a short rope for safety on this last section

  • Overnight: Tents
  • Meals: Lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
  • Distance: 14 Km.
  • Walking time: 6/8 hours.
  • Height gain: 450 m.

Day 2: Summit day - Return to El Chaltén

After a good breakfast we grab our "attack" back packs, as they are lighter and smaller; we only carry what we need for the ascent of Cerro Solo.

We cross sectors of loose stone until first reaching the snow line and then the glacier itself. The gradient is around 30/35° After two hours we reach the so-called "bottleneck" between the lower and upper glaciers. We cross the bergscrund and, after a short distance with a gradient of 40/45° we cross onto the upper glacier. Once on the last section, it takes an hour to reach the summit of Cerro Solo.

The view from the summit on a clear day is truly wonderful!! After enjoying the summit, we start the return journey to El Chaltén
