El Chaltén

Ascent of Cerro Madsen (1806 m.a.s.l.)

Length: 1 day
Grade of difficulty: Demanding
Season: October to April
Group size: 1 to 3 people
Ratio: 1 Guide : 3 Pax

The ascent of Cerro Madsen is a perfect challenge for beginners, or for anyone who wants to reach the summit of a Patagonian mountain and delight in one of the most marvellous views in the world. Feel the insignificance of the human race as you gaze upon one of the most beautiful mountains on earth.

The activity begins with a transfer from El Chaltén to the starting point, El Pilar (17 km), from where we commence a beautiful approach trek through a leafy lenga beech forest as far as the River Blanco Base Camp (for the exclusive use of mountain climbers).

After a brief rest we start our ascent, enjoying spectacular panoramas on our way up to the famous "Laguna de Los Tres". We walk around the edge of its frontal moraine and start our ascent of Cerro Madsen itself.

We continue across various rocky outcrops and may come across some areas of snow, depending on the time of year and the weather conditions over the previous days. Finally we reach the summit of this mountain which, upon arrival, presents us with a view that is more spectacular than you can imagine. In the afternoon we start our descent towards El Chaltén, passing the famous Capri Lagoon
